Health in the Age of WiFi
The less one knows about this subject, the happier one generally is. The question arises: Is ignorance bliss when it comes to Wifi radiation or EMFs (electromagnetic fields). Whether Wifi radiation is or is not a health threat is as controversial a question as does global warming really exist. There is ample scientific evidence to support both the validity of global warming and the health risks of WiFi radiation, yet there are plenty of people who deny the existence of both of these threats to life on our planet
I attended a conference a few years ago at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts entitled Wireless Technology and Public Heath: Health and Environmental Hazards in a Wireless World. Scientists, doctors, researchers, people in the utilities industry all gave evidence in support of the fact that radiation is a health risk, they explained the mechanism of how this risk pans out in the body, and talked about steps people can take to try to address this risk. I also learned about the corruption in the California Public Utilities Commission, which is supposed to regulate the state’s privately owned electric utilities. The regulatory commissions are infiltrated by the very people whom they were created to regulate. Hence there is no authentic regulation protecting the interest of the public.
I also read a book recently called, A Wellness Guide to the Digital Age, by Kerry Crofton. This book was definitely not pleasure reading. The first part of the book was a cry of alarm, and very disturbing. In the second half the author talked about some of the things we can do to safeguard our homes and families.
Here are some of the risk factors I learned about and suggestions about what you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones.
According to Loretta Lynch, one of California’s most influential lawyers and a former president of the California Public Utilities Commission, the Smart Meter replaced the earlier analog meter, which had been fully paid for, and was no longer a source of income for the utility industry, so they convinced people to install Smart Meters in their homes. The analog meters did not give off any radiation, and provided entry level jobs for people. It was a perfect technology. With the Smart Meter the industry could charge their customers the price of the meter, and save money by cutting down their workforce. The Smart Meter could also gather information about the residents of the houses that they were attached to. They tell the utilities companies when you use electricity the most, when you run your dishwasher and so forth, so the utility companies become very smart about you, and they get extremely wealthy off of you as well. Here is a quote from Kerry Crofton’s book, page 69.
“Are you suspicious yet of technologies labelled “smart?” The health concerns are not just about one Smart Meter, but hubs of them in high-density dwellings, the prospect of billions of them around the world, and their powerful wireless Smart Grid/Wi-MAX networks. Smart Meters send out frequent bursts of data (energy consumption readings) from your house to your neighbor’s, then to the power company. Electro-sensitive people, and others, could suffer from this involuntary exposure. The emission levels “meet government standards and are too low to cause harm” officials declare. Let’s ask some hard questions. Where is the evidence that this radiation, re-classified in 2011 by the WHO as “possibly carcinogenic,” will not be harmful. What agency is monitoring our accumulated dose of exposure? Why are you forging ahead, when some utilities are removing Smart Meters?”
How to Minimize the Risk of the Smart Meter:
You can do your own research about the Smart Meter, but in the meantime, please know that you have the option to get off the Smart Meter and back on the earlier and safer analog meter. PG&;E charges an installation fee of $75 and a monthly fee of $10 to pay for sending an employee in to read your meter. This is money very well spent to safeguard the health of your family. You can also shield your smart meter by putting a Faraday cage around it. These can be purchased at LessEMF.com.
The Wifi modem. Airport, or router in your home gives off a large amount of radiation. There are meters you can purchase, some very expensive and some inexpensive to measure just how much radiation you are being exposed to from your routers and modems. Distance from the modem matters when it comes to radiation, so increasing your distance from the devices can help. For electro-sensitive people maintaining a big distance from the modem can be crucial for health. Here is a link to a device for measuring electromagnetic fields with a built in Gauss meter, that is medium priced: Cornet ED78S Meter.
How to Minimize the Risk of the Modem or Airport
Increase the distance of the modem from the people and animals in your home. Try to put it as far from people as possible.
Connect your modem or airport to a power strip and turn the power strip off at night when you are sleeping. This can make a big difference in improving the sleep of the members of your household.
People who live in congested areas have multiple Wifi signals coming into their homes. We, for example, have about twelve signals that we receive. I asked a Comcast employee a month ago if there was just one signal that everyone tapped in to, or if they sent separate signals to each home. I was told that they send separate signals to each home, and the reason for this is that is how the communications companies make their money.
It is possible to turn WiFi off when not in use, or to disable Wifi altogether, and use a wired ethernet system to connect the signal coming into your house to your modem, and from the modem connect to your computers through ethernet wire.. The modem would have to be disabled, so it is not producing a signal. You also have to turn off Wifi on your computer. We recently had ethernet wire run under the house through the crawl space to each room in the house, so that we could connect to the internet with a wired system. If you have a router connected to your modem. You can disable the Wifi on your modem, but not on your router, but keep the router unplugged. Then if you need Wifi you can plug it in. Alternatively you can purchase a Netgear modem with an on off switch for Wifi. There are other ways to protect your home from incoming Wifi.. Here is a link to Safe Living Technologies, Inc., an excellent resource for learning about and purchasing products to protect your family from Wifi radiation.
I purchase a JRS Eco100 Wireless Router this year. Here is some information about the router, which I copied from their website.
“Did you know that common wireless modems/routers emit electromagnetic radiation 24/7 in the form of beacon signals, 10 times a second, clearly measurable? Reduce EMFs in your home with a JRS® Eco Wireless on Asus® router. They come with the unique JRS Eco firmware that runs on a state of the art Asus router, and measurably reduce radiation, without sacrificing speed, stability or range.
- All models cut down on electrosmog by reducing the beacon pulse frequency by 90%.
- The JRS Eco 100 models even take it one step further. Wifi not being used? This router is 100% radiation free. It automatically switches to a completely radiation-free Full Eco stand-by mode when no wifi devices are connected.
- The JRS Eco 100 models switch their wireless signal back on immediately when you re-enable wifi on your wireless device or open the list of available networks. They will only respond to your own devices.”
The distance where you live to the cell phone antennas is also a factor that can affect your health. You can go to Antennasearch.com and put in your address to find out if you live a safe distance from the nearest cell phone antenna. It should be 1,644 feet away from any people. Cell phone antennas are often hidden in church steeples and other tall buildings. We invited an EMF consultant to analyze our house and she reported that we have extremely high exposure to radiofrequencies from cell towers that surround us on all sides. The downstairs bedrooms were not affected, but the master bedroom upstairs had a reading of 1690 in uW/m2, or microwatts per square meter, which she classified as an extreme level of concern. Liz Menkes, BBEC, EMRS from EMF Healthy recommended that we purchase a canopy for our bed, (not the kind that has a hoop) which shields from radiofrequencies from cell towers. The one she preferred was made from Swiss Shield Naturell.
I understand what a sacred cow the cell phone is to young people, and to older people as well.
First of all are there health risks associated with cell phone use? Apparently, there definitely are. The amount of time, you spend on the cell phone adds to the risk. Negative effects are cumulative. Cell phones do pose a cancer risk to their users after long-term use. People who hold cell phones against their ears do have an increased risk of brain cancer or gliomas. This type of cancer is on the rise. People who carry their cell phones in their pants pockets do have a higher risk of testicular cancer and low sperm count.
At the conference I recently attended on ;“Wireless Technology and Public Health, Dr. Martin Pall, a Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry and Basic Medical Sciences in the School of Molecular Biosciences at Washington State University, “Recently published groundbreaking science on the mechanism of action of wireless microwave radiation on cells via Voltage Gated Calcium Channel Activation. His research explains how EMF radiation disrupts regulation of cellular processes leading to inflammation and a variety of inflammatory disease states.”…This paper was listed as one of the top medical publications of 2013 and has led to a profound shift in understanding of non-thermal EMF effects. How to Minimize the Risk Associated with Cell Phone Use:
1. Purchase cell phones that emit lower amounts of radiation. Here is a quote from Dr. Joel M. Moskowitz Ph. D on the risks of cell phone use.
“Based upon the weight of the evidence from several decades of research including thousands of peer-reviewed published studies, many experts worldwide have signed declarations calling upon government to adopt stronger radiation standards to protect consumers from low intensity, non-thermal exposures from radiation associated with wireless communications, and to alert consumers about how to reduce their risk of harm. Here is a link to the text. Electromagnetic Radiation Safety.
There is a company called RFsafe.com. They have a 24 hour cell phone radiation hot line. You can ask them about cell phone models and the amount of radiation they emit.
2. Don’t hold the cell phone close to your body. Holding the cell phone one foot away from you reduces the radiation 10,000 fold. I have seen people carry their cell phones on their chest pocket against their hearts. This is not a good choice. Carrying the phone in the front or back pants pockets is also not wise. Some pants have cell phone pockets on the lower thigh or lower leg. This is a wiser way to carry the cell phone.
3. Use the cell phone on speaker mode rather than holding it against your head.
4. Purchase cell phone shields for your cell phone. I prefer the one covers both the front and back of the phone. You can get these at LessEMF.com.
5. You can also purchase Air tube Headsets from LessEMF.com or from Electrahealth.com that reduce radiation to the head from cell phones.
6. Turn off the features on your cell phone that you are not using: turn off the blue tooth, turn off the GPS, Use the phone on Airplane mode if you are not making or expecting a call. Turn off cellular data and Wifi when you are not using them. If you are not going to turn these features off, at the minimum purchase a protective case.
7. Do not use the cell phone in the car; The car is an enclosed metal container that increases the exposure to radiation. Do not connect to the internet to watch movies in the car on your cell phone or ipad, because the phone will be continuously sending signals out searching for the nearest cell phone antenna, thus greatly increasing your exposure.
8. Use wired landline phones at home, and keep cell phones for when traveling or when you are out of the house. I have purchased landline phones for every room in the house and I love them. It is not expensive to activate phone jacks in your house and is money well spent.
9. Don’t use wireless phones at home, because you are getting the same radiation as you do from cell phones.
10. Do not charge your cell phone by your bed. Charge the cell phone in a room far from where you are sleeping, and power off the cell phone when you are charging it.
11. Use text messaging rather than talking. You get less radiation that way.
Health in the Age of Wifi: Protecting Your Children
I know how much children love to talk on cell phones, play with I-pads, watch TV, and play with their play stations. If you ask most parents they will say it is one of the major problems they deal with in their households. All of the above are highly addictive, and children suffer greater negative affects from these technologies than adults. The reason for this is that the brains of children are more permeable than the brains of adults and the radiation signals penetrate much deeper into children’s skulls than into adult skulls. When the cell phones were tested they were tested on the adult brain, not taking into consideration the more delicate and permeable brains of children.
Another one of the presenters at the conference on Wireless Technology and Public Health was Victoria L. Dunckley, M.D. She wrote a book called “Reset Your Child’s Brain.”
Dr. Dunckley believes that all manner of health problems in children can be aggravated from screen time. Children with disabilities are the most vulnerable, but all children are susceptible to the negative effects of screen time. She attributes the burgeoning problems with learning and behavioral challenges in children in large part to excessive screen time. The first thing she does when you consult with her is put your child on a one month long technology fast, which she claims alleviates many of the children’s health problems. Wifi has increased its presence in our school classrooms, and since COVID the explosion of Zoom classes has further exacerbated the problem of Wifi exposure for all people.
What is additionally concerning is that Dr. Dunckley states that, contrary to popular belief, children actually do learn better from text books, where they can flip the pages of a book and see the words in print rather than from overhead projectors and learning on the computer.

Conclusion
I hope that this article will help people understand that we are paying a price for the convenience of the new technologies, which we are enjoying. How then can we minimize these risks? Or should we go back to earlier and safer technologies? These are some important unanswered questions. Many scientists believe that radiation from Wifi poses an unprecedented risk to our health and our planet. Let’s do something about it.

Note regarding blog comments:
Dear Friends,
I appreciate your visiting my website and reading my articles and taking the time to write your comments. I welcome your comments and will post them if it looks like what you have to say will be helpful to others. I may not write a comment back, but will let the article itself present my point of view.
I am no longer responding to people’s questions regarding personal health matters on my blog, because it becomes stressful for me due to the volume of such questions that I get.
Also there is no way I can actually answer these questions properly without familiarizing myself with the person’s health.
For anyone who is interested in working with me, please complete the appropriate questionnaire and send it to me. This way I will know that you are ready to move forward with a consultation.
I wish you the best of health.
Peace be with you,
Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)

Hello Olenev,
I am writing a research paper in my university about wifi in schools. I am having a disagreement with one of my classmates about this article and I want to understand an aspect of it. Are you being paid for the two websites that you put in the article regarding the products you can buy to help avoid the radiation? I loved the article by the way.
Thank you very much,
Luke Chernezky
