Ruta Graveolens A Homeopathic First Aid Remedy

Ruta graveolens is another one of my favorite remedies and creams, because when I need it it doesn’t disappoint me. I actually had a call to use it recently after twisting my waist too hard in my Latin American dance class. I endured the pain for about a day and then I decided to see if the Ruta cream would help. I applied the cream to my waist at night and when I woke up in the morning the pain was gone.

I had another similar experience about four years ago when I twisted my upper thigh doing T’ai Chi Ch’uan exercises. I lived with that pain for about six months, and then I decided I had had enough of it and applied Ruta cream to the thigh.  The pain left within a day and I never had a recurrence of that pain. These are two personal testimonials of the power of this cream to relieve pain. In both instances the type of injury was a twisting injury, and the sensation I was experiencing was a twisting pain, which is characteristic of this remedy.

I also use the cream from time to time when I strain my shoulder by pushing a shopping cart that is too heavy for me. I just apply the Ruta cream and my shoulder feels better soon afterward.

One of the most dramatic experiences I had with the Ruta cream was with my eldest son. He broke his forearm when he was sixteen years old while trying out his friend’s skateboard. At the emergency room they bandaged the arm, but did not set it, telling us to make an appointment with an orthopedic doctor to set the bone. The emergency room doctors did not give him anything for pain relief. That night he woke me up saying that the pain was too intense and he couldn’t take it anymore. I studied his symptoms and decided to give him a dose of Ruta 30C. The remedy helped him with the pain very quickly. He was able to get to sleep and woke up pain free in the morning.

I have given Ruta many times to clients with knee injuries from playing sports when they have pulled a ligament or a tendon or torn the miniscus. The remedy has a reputation in these kinds of injuries and it unfailingly lives up to that reputation.

From the case examples I have listed above, you can see that this is a great remedy for sports injuries. Wouldn’t it be great if all nurses offices, hospitals and gymnasiums kept a jar of this little cream and the remedy pellets in their first aid kits for muscle pulls, strains, twists and other mishaps that frequently happen when one exercises too vigorously?

In the new method of case taking and analysis taught by Rajan Sankaran, he teaches that when selecting a remedy from the plant kingdom, you have to match the sensation of the patient’s pain to a remedy that has a similar sensation. He has developed a chart of plant sensations to help practitioners find the plant family that matches the patient’s sensations the best. Looking at the chart I see that Ruta graveolens is a member of the Rutaceae family, and the sensations common to these plants are squeezed and then broken or crushed, squeezed and compressed, constricted and squeezed, twisted and broken and crushed. It also has choking and strangling sensations. The patient is usually ameliorated by stretching. Matching the sensation of the patient’s pain to a remedy with a similar sensation is a good way to confirm the prescription. From the examples I gave above you can see the twisting sensation that I was experiencing matched the twisting sensation of the Rutaceae family.

Now I would like to talk about the types of conditions that Ruta graveolens can help with.

1)        First and foremost think about Ruta graveolens for injuries to the ligaments, tendons and the periosteum or lining of the bones. This remedy is of use in areas where the skin is close to the bone, and in injuries to cartilage and fibrous tissue. (Remember Hypericum is for injuries to nerve tissue, Arnica to muscle  tissue, and Bellis perennis to soft tissue.) Ruta is for fibrous tissue such as ligaments and tendons. Keeping these few essential facts about the remedies in mind will help you greatly in knowing which one to select in a trauma situation.

Consider Ruta in fractures, or bruising of the bone and the periosteum from injuries such as a blow from a hammer. The injuries can be slow to heal from, and there can be a lot of pain in the bones as well as bruising.

Under this category of injuries you can think of muscle pulls and strains. Injuries where the parts are twisted, such as in the thigh and waste injury I mentioned above. Ruta is well known for injuries to the thigh. Knee or ankle injuries where the ligaments or tendons are pulled and torn fall under this category of complaint and can be greatly helped by this remedy.

2)            Overstrain, overuse, overexertion are all words that apply well to Ruta. Examples of overuse types of injuries that Ruta is well known for are:

Tennis elbow. Ruta is a specific for this situation.

Carpal tunnel syndrome. Ruta is of great benefit for overuse injuries of typists, musicians, computer programmers and other people who use their wrists excessively.

Eyestrain. Ruta is the remedy you need to think of for non-inflammatory injuries of the eye that are caused from overexertion of the ocular muscles. Seamstresses, people working at the computer for hours at a time, or anyone else doing fine work with the eye can benefit from this remedy for their eyestrain. It is also good for headaches and vision disturbances caused by overuse of the eye. I would suggest dabbing the cream around the eyes to help relieve this symptom, or you can take the remedy in potency.

3)            Hardened or thickened areas or nodules over the bones, periosteum or tendons caused by overuse or injury. Construction workers, mechanics and farmers who develop these thickenings or nodular growths on their hands from holding their tools all day long can benefit greatly from Ruta. This remedy can help when there has been permanent flexing of the hands or feet caused by overuse or exertion of the hands or feet.

One of my husband’s relatives has permanent flexing of the fingers of his hands and of his toes. At a family reunion one day, he complained about his arthritic pains and I asked him if he would like to try some Ruta cream to see if it would help. It turned out that this cream helped him a great deal with the pain, and I have been mailing him bottles of the cream ever since.

4)        Back Problems. Think of Ruta the remedy and Ruta the cream for helping to relieve back pain. The characteristic Ruta back pain would be a bruised sensation, as though the person had fallen on the back or received a blow to the back or coccyx. Ruta also has weakness and lameness of the back and lower extremities from overstrain, lifting or spraining the back.

Other back problems that Ruta addresses are herniated disks with characteristic Ruta causation, such as overstrain and overextertion. The remedy helps people who strain their backs easily, or where the vertebrae slip out of place easily. Think of Ruta for morning back pain and for wounds to the spine.

5)            Dental and Mouth Problems. This remedy has a wide field of action where it comes to dental problems. You should consider Ruta for the following conditions:

a)    Trauma to the tooth, where the tooth is loosened in the socket or knocked out of position.

b)    Bone and periosteal pain following dental surgery, or pain after injection of a local anesthestic.

c)     Pain of dry socket, at the beginning of an infection.

d)    To help reduce the pain and trauma of tooth extraction, if Arnica does not help sufficiently.

e)    To ease the discomfort associated with fitting and adjusting braces.

f)     To help heal jaw fractures.

6)            Sciatica. Ruta can help with very severe sciatic pains with the characteristic Ruta pain sensation listed above, as well as bruised and darting pains. The pains are often aggravated at night when the patient lies down, and are worse on first motion like Rhus tox. The pains begin in the back and extend to the hips and thighs.

7)            Prolapsus ani. Ruta is good for prolapsus ani and many other symptoms pertaining to the rectum, including constipation. It has pain in the rectum when sitting, and is a good remedy for hemorrhoids and strictures of the rectum where the symptoms fit with Ruta.

8)            Lameness after sprains, especially of ankles, wrists and

knees. Ruta is one of the first remedies to be thought of for injuries to the knees. It is good for bursitis of the knee, and is useful where the knees give way on going up and down the stairs, and the foot turns under from weakness of the ankles. The hamstrings feel shortened and weak.

9)            Surgery. Ruta should be given after joint surgery to assist in healing.

10)          Ganglion on the wrist.

11)           Pain in the feet. Ruta can help with pain in the bones and tendons of the feet. The pains are aggravated on stepping, standing and walking. The pains in the feet are often described as bruised, sore, raw and tender.

12)          Other things to know about Ruta. Ruta is a rheumatic remedy, meaning that the patient is aggravated by cold, wet and stormy weather. Ruta helps with the bruised bone pains from injuries, strains or dislocations.

As you can see there is a great deal to be said about Ruta graveolens as it has a very wide range of usefulness. This is a remedy and cream that would not sit idle in your medicine chest.

Hi Sir, my son age 22yrs is having problem of Muscles ie. on getting up from chair or to open hand grip fingers etc. it takes 4 seconds time every time on any initial movement. After investigations Doctors told that it is inherited disease called Mayotonia Congineta, in which muscles Contrating to Relaxation on initial movement takes 4 seconds for him and there is No permanent cure but can be subsided with regular use of Steroids. Hence I request you sir please suggest
homeopathic medicines to control or to cure this disease for him.

    Thanks.

  2. Dear Kimberly,
I am sorry about your shoulder injury. The two remedies listed in highest degree for shoulder injuries are Rhus toxicodendron and Ferrum metallicum. I do acute/trauma consultations for $100. Please let me know if you would like to do that. You can send me an e-mail to Olenev@att.net.

There are other remedies that may also help. You can try Ruta cream, which you can get at firstaidcreams.com to see if this will help. It is good for injuries to ligaments and tendons and overstrain injuries. I have also seen Ledum cream help when the shoulder is better from ice.

If you want to do this on your own. I would recommend not going higher than the 30C and taking only one dose of the remedy and not repeating. Please see the article on my website entitled How to Take Homeopathic Remedies for instructions.

I hope you recover very soon,

    In love and service,

    Deborah

  3. Dear Sir,
I would under no circumstances give this medicine to your mother. The 10M strength is extremely high and should not be given to a person of her age. If you wish to try Ruta graveolens for your mother, please purchase the 12C or 30C strength of the remedy, and administer it only one time and do not repeat it. Please see the article on this website entitled: How to Take Homeopathic Remedies for instructions on how to take the remedy.

I hope your mother’s arm pain gets better soon. Another remedy you can consider for her is Ferrum metallicum 12C or 30C. This remedy is very good for shoulder injuries.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

Hello! I am so glad I found this article! I have been off work from my job as a flight attendant for over a year now with a shoulder injury. The diagnosis is mild diffuse rotator cuff tendinopathy as revealed by an MRI. My pain is isolated to my supraspinatus tendon of my left shoulder. We tried cortisone which only took the pain away for 2 months. Then physical therapy which was not effective. Now my doctor wants to do a PRP injection or a Tenex procedure but both have been denied by the Utilization Review doctors with the insurance for lack of evidence as successful in this application. My pain has increased from around a 2 at the highest a year ago to around a 6 now with minor rotation of my shoulder. Do you think Ruta would be a good remedy to try for this injury? If so, what kind of dosage? I am willing to try anything to get this thing healed and back to work! Thank you!

  4. Dear Liz,
I am sorry to hear that you are suffering from fibromyalgia. I would not be able to prescribe on this one symptom nor recommend a potency without taking your full case. Please read the article on How to Take Homeopathic Remedies to learn the way I recommend taking remedies.

    https://homeopathyforhealth.net/2016/07/16/how-to-take-homeopathic-remedies/

If you would like me to take your case and work with you, please complete the Adult Questionnaire, which you can find on this website, and e-mail it to me when you have completed it. That will let me know that you are ready to make an appointment. I hope you feel better very quickly.

  5. Dear Gail,
Thank you for writing with your questions. The remedies that are listed highest for injury and trauma to the wrist are Ruta graveolens and Rhus toxicodendron. They are both first aid remedies with a strong affinity for the wrist. Symphytum is good for fractures, but does not have the specific wrist affinity.

Hypericum can be helpful for sciatica, but there are many remedies listed for sciatica, so it is a good idea to work with a homeopath to try to get relief from this symptom, which is often not easy to treat.

I looked up tumors of the adrenals and Sepia comes up. Sepia is a very good women’s hormonal remedy, so if the symptoms of the remedy match your daughter in law’s symptoms it may help with the benign tumor of her adrenals,

I wish you success with homeopathy.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

    • gail duboe on May 25, 2017 at 12:13 pm

I have several questions…Will symphytum work on a wrist fracture that has not healed in a while? (3 months maybe)? Will Hypericum enliven nerves down the sciatic nerve and part of the foot that is numb from a disc injury? If my daughter in law has adrenal adenomas on one of her adrenals, might she take a constitutional remedy that will dissolve these adenomas?

    • Liz on May 16, 2017 at 8:49 am

    Hello!
My name is Liz I am 21 years old and I have had fibromyalgia for almost a year now! I suffered two injuries that I went to physical therapy for but we’re never treated past that and my pain sensitivity decreased dramatically. I believe that that is why my fiber myalgia developed I am now doing a lot of research on trying to find homeopathic remedies because I honestly cannot take this pain anymore ! I have seen a lot of studies done on rhus tox and Rita! I was wondering which one would be better to take for fibromyalgia? And if so in pellet form or cream and also if in pellet form how potent should they be I believe they come in six C, 30 C, and 200! And also I believe I saw a blog that says to take it for a full week or until pain goes away but I was wondering if you had any further suggestions? I will really take any help I can get at this point! Thank you so much

  6. Dear Amy,
Thank you very much for your excellent question. I will copy the information from the yellow sheet below that describes the rules for repeating the creams:

How Often to Use the Creams:

Some people are helped by a single application of the needed cream. Other people may need to apply the creams frequently. Here is a good guide on how to use the creams: if the affected part feels much better or significantly worse after an application of the cream, that is a sign that you need to pause from it and wait. You do not need to reapply the cream until the process has gone full circle – that is the aggravation has been followed by an amelioration, and then a return of symptoms, indicating that it is time to redose or reapply the cream. A wise thing to do may be to apply the cream once and then wait two to three days and see how you feel. If your pain is gone, then you should not reapply. Only use the cream again, if the pain returns.

If the part felt significantly worse after an application of the cream it means that the cream has found the symptom and it is working on it. With homeopathic remedies and creams, there is often an intensification of the symptoms (or aggravation) where the remedy finds the symptom and tries to push it on through. The medicinal reaction has to be stronger than the patient’s own symptoms in order to overcome the patient’s symptoms. After an aggravation of symptoms, an amelioration, or gradual improvement of symptoms should follow.

If the patient does not experience a strong aggravation or strong amelioration after applying the creams, then they can continue to apply them one, two, three or even four times a day, until they experience either the aggravation or amelioration of the symptoms, indicating that it is time to stop. If there is no response, the cream may not be homeopathic to the case. At this point it is advisable to consult a homeopath for further guidance. I hope that this will bring some clarity as to how to use the creams.

    In love and service,
    Deborah

Thank you for such great information. I have been taking Ruta Graveolens 30 X for eye strain when it is uncontrolled my left eye turn inward after a few hours of reading. The great news is that it works but I’m unsure how many times I should take it a day as at times the eye crossing happens in between dosesages.

    Very Best

    Amy

  7. Dear Lisa,
Thank you for introducing yourself. I hope that your husband recovers quickly from his shoulder surgery. Arnica should be helpful, but your husband may need other remedies as well, such as Rhus toxicodendron, and Ferrum metallicum. It is also possible that he could benefit from Hypericum perforatum for nerve pain, if he is having any.

Rhus tox helps when the injured part is aggravated on first motion, but ameliorated as he warms up.

Ferrum metallicum is listed in highest degree for trauma to the shoulder.

It would be good for you to have the guidance of a homeopath, if you are considering giving him one of these homeopathic remedies.

I wish you and your hustand all the best.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

  8. Dear Salima,
I am sorry for my delay in responding to your blog comment. Your question was is taking Hypericum 12X twice a day equivalent to taking a Chewable tablet. No, it is not equivalent. If Hypericum perforatum were homeopathic to your condition, than a single dose of a 12X potency should hold a few weeks without needing to be repeated. The job of the remedy is to set up a healing process that unfolds over time. If you give the remedy frequently you keep yourself in reaction mode and inhibit the unfolding of the healing process, and hence slow down the progress of your treatment.

Homeopathy is very good for Rheumatoid arthritis, but I don’t think you are on the right path with Hypericum for this condition. It may be palliative, but it is unlikely to be curative.

I hope you feel better very soon.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

    Hi Deborah.
I am in the process of starting to study herbs. It’s something that I have a great interest in. My husband has in the last week undergone surgery on his right shoulder. The bone was shaved & muscle was reconstructed around the joint. I have at present encouraged him to take arnica. To help with the muscle bruising. I was just wondering was there anything else that I can give him. Thank you in advance. Lisa

    Hi

I have RA for 3 years. I am on hemeopathic remedies for almost 7 months. My Sed Rate is high for 6 months and not going down. My dr prescribe hypericum 12x drops twice a day. My question is is the same like taking Chewable tab if I will buy from Whole Foods store?

  9. Dear Ashish,
I am sorry about your shoulder injury. Your homeopath is prescribing differently from the way I prescribe, but that does not mean his method will not also help you. From my perspective it may be overdosing. Please read the article on How to Take Homeopathic Remedies. Here is the link:

    https://homeopathyforhealth.net/2016/07/16/how-to-take-homeopathic-remedies/

Another remedy you may want to consider for the shoulder injury is Ferrum metllicum 30C. Ferrum metallicum is the only remedy listed in bold for shoulder injuries, and I have seen it help a few people with their shoulder injuries. The pain may aggravate for a few weeks, but then it should help the shoulder.

With shoulder injuries it is very important to do exercises to keep the shoulder mobile, so that you do not get a frozen shoulder. If you already have a frozen shoulder, this will help to loosen it, but it takes time and a lot of exercising to heal the shoulder.

    I hope you recover soon.

    in love and service,

    Deborah

    • Ashish on January 4, 2017 at 7:13 am

Thanks Deborah for this very useful thread!

Please let me know if Ruta can help in my injuries too.

I injured my right shoulder about a year back and wasn’t able to use right hand with strength because of a little pain always there and I felt shoulder joint as loose.

So, I went for shoulder MRI about a month back. In my shoulder MRI, SLAP tear from 12-2 o’clock position is suggested. As per my discussion with allopathic doctor, it is very minor labrum tear and I can get it healed by shoulder strengthening exercises. If it doesn’t get healed in 3 months, then he advised me surgery which I don’t want to go for.

So, I went for homeopathic treatment. And a homeopathic doctor suggested me to take Ruta 30C dilution 3-4 drops 3 times a day along with one more medicine same quantity/times (name I don’t know). I am asked to drop 3-4 drops directly on tongue.

I wanted to ask if this is right way of taking homeopathic medicine since you suggested different way of taking this medicine in this blow. Am I taking medicine in wrong way and hence not getting help? Please advise.

Also, will Ruta Graveolens cream along with dilution help getting my tear healed quickly? Please advise.

    Thanks in advance!
    Ashish

  10. Dear Shankar,
It sounds good to take the 8 to 10 drops in 4 oz. of water, and then observing yourself for a month or two to see how you respond to it.

I hope the Ruta 30C will be very good for you.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

  11. Dear Farrukh,
I am sorry about the injury to your back. There are a number of remedies that are listed for injuries to the back from lifting. I have not taken your case, but I recommend that you consider Rhus toxicodendron 30C. I have written an article about this remedy. and you can find a lot of information about it on the internet, and see if you feel it fits your case, or consult with a homeopath who can help you with selecting the remedy and potency. A great constitutional remedy for lifting injuries is Calcarea carbonica, but you should work with a homeopath before considering taking this remedy to make sure that it matches your constitution.

Please read my article on How to take Homeopathic Remedies to learn how I prescribe remedies. Here is the link:

Now occasionally once in a year when I do exertion or do some physically hard work I again feel severe back pain, sometimes I feel like to fell down during walk, there is severe strain on my back I couldn’t sit, or walk…. Plz advise if ruta 30c is OK to use for the symptoms….

Thanks Deborah for the help !

The Ruta medicine I bought here is not in the form of the pellets, but is the Homeopathic dilution 30 (as written over it). Shall, I take 8-10 drops in water in 4 oz of water as suggested above.

I will do keep the advise in mind and not be afraid if my symptoms go up.

Thanks once again for the help and such a quick reply !

  12. Dear Shankar,
Thank you for your question about how to take a dose of Ruta graveolens 30C. Here is a link to an article on my website about how to take homeopathic remedies:

    https://homeopathyforhealth.net/2016/07/16/how-to-take-homeopathic-remedies/

Here is a possible way to take it:

Instructions for Taking the First Dose of a New Remedy

    1) Please dissolve 2 to 3 pellets of Ruta graveolens 30C in 4 oz. of water in a small cup. You can use a disposable cup if you wish.
    2) Once the remedy has thoroughly dissolved in the water, please stir it well.
    3) Please drink 2 to 3 oz. of the liquid. Hold the liquid in your mouth for 15 or 20 seconds before swallowing each sip. You may drink regular water after that if you would like. Please do not eat an hour before or after taking the remedy.
    4) You can also take the dose by olfaction, which would be to breathe over the cup for one minute.
    5) Discard the remainder of the liquid on the ground outside, and clean or dispose of the cup carefully, so as not to expose anyone else in the household to the medicine.

You may experience a time in the first three weeks after taking the remedy when your symptoms might be up and down. This is the remedy cycling through your repertoire of symptoms and looking for what it needs to work on. With homeopathy symptoms often intensify before they get better. That intensification is a good thing, as it shows you that the remedy has located what it needs to work on and is addressing the symptoms. Once that intensification passes, the symptoms should get better soon. Each time you take a remedy the cycling process gets easier, but I wanted to make you aware that this is a normal process after taking a remedy.

I would recommend reading the article, so that you understand the rules of repetition. I hope that your symptom improve soon.

    In love and service,
    Deborah

    Hi
I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Tennis Elbow.
Someone suggested me to use Ruta Graveolens 30C. How many drops do I need to take in water and how much quantity of water ? I have also applied Arnica Cream on my elbow, but only once or twice, since i was told about this today only.
And any precuations that I need to take while taking Ruta.

    Thanks & regards

  13. Dear Michele,
Thank you for your comment. I am sorry to hear about the severe pain your aunt is having in her upper left arm. There are 139 remedies listed for pain in the upper left arm, so my recommendation is that your aunt should work with a homeopath, who can take her complete case and help her with the arm pain.

Ruta is listed for pain in the left elbow, but not in the upper left arm. Unfortunately, you cannot prescribe on just one symptom alone.

If your aunt would like to work with me, please ask her to complete the adult questionnaire on my website and e-mail it to me. That will let me know that she is ready.

I wish you and your aunt all the best.

  14. Dear Sir,
Thank you for writing with your question. I am classical homeopath, so I only prescribe one remedy at a time. In this case you are working with six different homeopathic remedies in various potencies. You can somewhat get away with this when using very low potencies, like the 6C, but you are taking Rhus tox in the 1M strength once a week. A single dose of a 1M strength remedy has the potential to hold a year and longer, so you are overdosing with this and basically all the remedies on the list that you are taking.

The way I work is that I prescribe one remedy at a time, and evaluate your response to that remedy at about seven weeks. I usually do this with 30C potency remedies and above At that time I see what is better, same, or worse. We do not repeat the remedy unless symptoms that have improved relapse for a while. Then when I do repeat, I always alter the remedy slightly so that the client does not ever receive the identical stimulus. All of this is in keeping with the principals of classical homeopathy.

My suggestion is that you work with a classical homeopath who can help manage your case and advise you on the selection of the remedy and administration of it. I wish you all the best.

    In love and service,

    Deborah Olenev

  15. Dear Sharon,
There are a lot of remedies listed for spinal cord injuries and injuries to the vertebrae. It would be great if you sought the assistance of a homeopath. It will save you time and speed your recovery.

Hypericum is an important remedy for spinal cord injuries. It is listed in bold for this. Please read the information about this remedy at my first aid creams website on the Learn about Hypericum page. The URL is http://www.firstaidcreams.com.

You can also read the question and answers section to learn how to take the remedy, when to repeat safely.

Ruta and Symphytum can also be helpful. I am very sorry for your pain, and I hope you feel better soon.

I fell a week ago and fractured two vertebrae due to osteoporosis. I am taking ruta graveolins 30c, but not sure how often I should take it. I am in severe pain. I also plan to take symphytum. Should I start now, or wait?

  16. Dear Louise,
Thank you for your question. There are 35 remedies listed in my materia medica search program for muscle spasms in the back. Ruta graveolens is not listed for spasms specifically, but it is listed for back pain. I would recommend that you consult a homeopath who can make sure the remedy you take is well selected, and guide you in the administration of the remedy, and case management. I hope that your back pain gets better very quickly.

    Warm regards,

    Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)

I have had a muscle spasm in my back for the last two days and have been in dreadful pain mostly in the lower back, but now after holding myself tense because of the pain, my neck and shoulders now feel stiff and are becoming very painful too. I have ruta grav 30c. Will it help and how should I take it please. Thank you for your help.

  17. Dear Jenny,
The main remedy for injury to the nerves of the feet is Hypericum perforatum. I sell a Hypericum perforatum cream at http://www.firstaidcreams.com. It may be a good idea to see how you respond to the remedy in the cream form, and then if you need something stronger, you can take a single dose of Hypericum perforatum 30C.

I hope your feet feel better soon.

    In love and service,

    Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)

  18. Dear Mahmood,
Ruta graveolens is not specifically for weak eyesight. It is for eyestrain from overuse. If the remedy is not helping you, then it is not homeopathic to your case. I would suggest working with a classical homeopath, who can look at you as a whole and not just for the eyesight.

I wish you all the best.

    In love and service,

    Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)

    Hi,
Can I use this product for damaged nerves in my feet? Aka dressmakers feet. And if so is it available in Durban South Africa. I really can’t stand the pain any longer.
    Thank you,
    Jenny Ambrose

  19. Dear Michelle,
Yes, Ruta should be fine for your daughter to take. She may benefit from a single dose of Ruta 30C taken only one time and not repeated. She can dissolve 2 to 3 pellets of the 30C in 4 oz. of water, and drink 4 TBSP and discard the rest of the water.

Ruta should not be used if she is pregnant, as it can cause expulsion of the fetus, but if she is not pregnant, it should be safe for her to use.

If she would rather just apply the Ruta cream to her jaw, she can do that instead of taking the remedy orally, though the oral dose will be much stronger. You can order the cream from firstaidcreams.com or on Amazon.com.

I hope your daughter feels better soon.

my 16 year old daughter is having to have her jaw expanded for orthodontic reasons and is in a lot of pain. It is affecting her teeth, she has a lot pain in her nose, bridge of her nose and forehead. She also has pain in her ears when she swallows.
Will Ruta help alieviate these pains and also is it safe for her to take? I read that women of child bearing age should not take Ruta.

    Thanks for your help

    Michelle

  20. Dear Vishwas,
Thank you for sharing your aunt’s recovery story from her scooter accident. I am happy to hear that she is feeling better, and that the homeopathic remedies are helping her. You may also want to consider Hypericum perforatum for her, if she has a lot of pain, which extends up and down the arm with numbness.

You can watch slideshows about the first aid creams that you are mentioning at http://www.firstaidcreams.com.

I wish you all the best.

My aunt (43)broke her radial head after fallen from scooter. The ortho kept immobilised her hand for 5 weeks. After removal of the plaster we got to know that she could not move her hand niether extend not flex.
There was a great stiffness in the elbow joint. Then I gave her Ruta 200c and after 2 days she was able to do flexion and extinction to some extent. After 7 days of Ruta she can now able to do both flexion and extentions. Now she’s taking Symphytum 200 and improving day by day.

  21. Dear Goldi,
Thank you for your question. Yes Ruta 30C can help with your injured arm and shoulder. Another remedy to consider, which is possibly better for this type of injury is Rhus toxicodendron, and also Sympthyturm.

A guiding symptom to Rhus tox is that the pain is worse on beginning motion, and better as you warm up, and better from warm showers.

Sympthytum is a good a remedy to heal fractures. It is listed in bold for injuries to the arm. Hypericum is also listed in bold for injuries to the arm.

Hypericum is good for injuries to areas rich and nerves. If the pain has extension, that is a good guiding symptom.

I hope this information is helpful. I wish you all success in healing your injuries promptly.

    In love and service,

    Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)

    Hello 🙂

I fell about a month ago and injured my left upper arm and shoulder.
I was in Japan at the time and had with me only arnica and hypericum both c30.

When I got back the doctor send me to X-ray plus ultrasound,
And now it appears that I hv a very small fracture and partly torn tendon (and tendinitis).

I understand the cream can help, but I’ve another question:
Can ruta c30 can be used even though a month passed?

    Thanks
    Goldi

  22. Dear Lourdes,
I am sorry for my delay in responding. The remedy, Ruta graveness, in let’s say a 12C, or 30C, is stronger that the Ruta graveness cream. The reason for this is that the cream is made from the mother tincture, whereas the remedies are potentized the homeopathic way. Potentized remedies are much stronger than the cream made from the mother tincture.

Nonetheless the cream is also very effective, and has the same properties as the potentized remedy. The potentized remedy is usually deeper and longer acting. I have articles on this website about homeopathy, how remedies are potentized, and how to determine when to repeat the remedy.

    Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)

    Hello,
Is the Ruta cream more effective than the pellet for acute wrist injury or can they both be used in conjunction? I cannot find the cream anywhere in Toronto, Canada.
    Thanks.

Just fyi: suggested this along with Rhus Tox for my son in law who had been having hip and leg pain for many months. AFTER JUST ONE DAY DOSING, HE SAID “IT’S LIKE I NEVER HAD ANY ACHE OR PAIN” Like a miracle! The same remedies had been suggested for me many years ago when I had a broken ankle, had no pain after the first day….unbelievable remedy.

thanks so much Boiron for many great remedies!

  23. Dear Kathie,
Thank you very much for your testimonial about Ruta gaveolens. I am so happy to hear what a good experience you had with this remedy. If you don’t mind, I would appeciate it if you could put your testimonial on the http://www.firstaidcreams.com website on the Ruta page or the testimonial section. I wish you all the best.
    Warm regards,
    Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)

  24. I have used Ruta Grav on a frozen shoulder after creams and steroid injections did not work. I put on Ruta at night and held hot water bottle over and it healed. Now I have had bad shoulder, upper arm pain from over-use, pain like a trapped nerve. Anti-inflammatory cream no good. Ruta has relieved the pain in 3 days. Will continue use until pain gone. Brilliant remedy.
