Hypericum Perforatum Homeopathic First Aid Remedy

Hypericum is one of my favorite remedies, because when you need it, it doesn’t disappoint you. When you have had that unfortunate mishap, of let’s say shutting your finger in the car door, or dropping a brick on your foot, you know that you can count on Hypericum for that much needed instant relief. I have three Hypericum stories to relate to you, which will drive home the power of this remedy to relieve.

Hypericum is for injuries to areas of the body that are rich in sentient nerves, such as the fingers, toes, and the spinal cord. One of my most memorable experiences with this remedy was an unfortunate incident that happened at my daughter’s sixth birthday. One of the children there slammed the bedroom door really hard, and it nearly severed the tip of my son’s index finger. He was a toddler at the time. The first thing I did was give him Arnica, but it did not help. Then I got out Kent’s Materia Medica and it directed me to Hypericum. I gave him a 30C dose of the remedy and within moments he had no pain, and was actually playing and quite happy. We then rushed him to the hospital, where he had surgery to reattach the crushed and torn fingertip. Unfortunately, the Hypericum prevented the anesthesia from working. I subsequently learned that you should not give Hypericum prior to surgery for just this reason. Arnica should be given instead to minimize the trauma of surgery. My son’s finger proceeded to heal beautifully. I dressed the wound with Calendula and Hypericum ointments. Now I have another little boy and not infrequently, he will shut a drawer on his finger and the Hypericum cream brings him prompt relief from the pain.

The next Hypericum story I wish to relate is of a man I met a few years ago who was in his late 50s. This man was a Vietnam veteran who served on the flight deck of a ship on the Coral Seas during the war. His job was to park the fighter planes and secure them. One of the planes ran over both of his feet, tearing off the skin and severely damaging them. He was told that the damage was so extensive that the only solution was amputation. This man was deeply spiritual and he prayed to God for help. His legs began to heal right away, and he was able to avoid amputation. I met him over thirty years later and he had been suffering from pain in the feet ever since then, with lack of sensation in the toes. He reported that the feet became really hot and inflamed, the pain radiated up and down his legs, and there was swelling involved. I gave him a 200C dose of Hypericum and within days of taking the remedy he reported to me that the feet were much better.  This was a year and a half ago and the remedy is still holding strong.  He only recently needed a repetition.

The last Hypericum story I want to relate is of a man in his 30’s who came to see me recently following an accident where he was hit by an oncoming car and landed on his tailbone. This is his description of the accident.

“The car was coming down the hill. I was on my bike. The car was going 45 miles per hour. I hit the front. I flew up and landed on the top of his car with my back. The car kept on going. It was hit and run. Then I landed on the base of my spine on the cement. I must have been out for 15 to 20 seconds. Everything went blurry. Then I felt a shooting pain at the base of my spine. When I was coming to I knew that it was pretty serious. I could tell no bones were broken.

“The accident occurred on June 10th.  A day or two later I looked in the mirror. I had never seen bruises like this in my life. The whole base of my spine was black and blue and on my left side there was this really bad bruise. It was shocking to see that manifestation of the injury.”

I prescribed Hypericum 1M to this man instead of Arnica, because of the location of the injury, the tailbone or coccyx, and the shooting pains extending from the sight of the injury. Hypericum is a specific for this type of injury. This is his report to me two weeks later about his response to the remedy: “The injury is dong very well. In fact, the day that I took the remedy it felt better.”

Here is a list of common uses for this remedy and cream.

1)           First and foremost Hypericum is to be thought of for injuries to areas rich in sentient nerves. If you have an injury to the hand or foot, particularly the fingers and toes think of this remedy first. It is much more effective than Arnica for this kind of an injury.

2)            Hypericum is the first remedy to be thought of for injuries to the coccyx, commonly known as the tailbone, and for spinal cord injuries in general.

3)            Hypericum is one of the most important remedies for head injuries. It can be thought of for convulsions following head injuries and for loss of memory following head injuries.

4)            Hypericum is known for shooting and lancinating pains along the course of the nerves extending from the sight of the injury. Crawling and numbness are other characteristics of this remedy. Think of it for numbness or lack of sensation in sentient nerves following injury.

5)         Think of Hypericum for wounds that are particularly painful. For very painful wounds I usually combine Hypericum with Calendula creams as a topical application.

6)         Following Childbirth, Hypericum can help if there has been a forceps delivery, and for bad effects of epidurals. Remember Hypericum for women who have had pain in the coccyx or spine since childbirth.

7)         Hypericum can help with excessively painful hemorrhoids, and severe rectal or anal pain. A little of the cream can bring quick relief.

8)         Hypericum is very good for abdominal surgery. Think of it for pain after inguinal or hiatal hernia surgery, and for the pain of laparotomy. It is one of the remedies I include in the surgery packet.

9)         Hypericum can be used as a first aid cream for very painful boils or abscesses where there is no discharge of pus. If these are recurrent constitutional treatment will be necessary.

10)        Animal bites.  Hypericum and Ledum are the first remedies to be thought of for animal or insect bites. Both of these remedies prevent lock-jaw or tetanus. Use Hypericum if there is shooting pain along the course of the nerves. Use Ledum if the injured part is better with ice cold applications, and there are ascending pains. See Ledum for a further differential. Quoting from the great homeopathic teacher James Tyler Kent, “Hypericum and Ledum run close together, and they have to be compared. Ledum has much of the sore bruised feeling of Arnica and will often take its place; but Hypericum and Ledum come together for consideration when an injury to a nerve has taken on inflammatory action. Instead of the muscles and bones and blood vessels, as in Arnica, Rhus and Calcarea, the nerves are the sphere for these two remedies. When the finger ends or toes have been bruised or lacerated, or a nail has been torn off, or when a nerve has become pinched between a hammer and the bone in a blow, and that nerve becomes inflamed and the pain can be traced up along the nerve, and it is gradually extending toward the body from the injured part with stitching, darting pains, coming and going, or shooting up from the region of the injury toward the body, a dangerous condition is coming on. In this condition Hypericum is above all the remedies to be thought of and hardly any other medicine is likely to come in. It hardly need be said that lock-jaw is threatening.”

11)         Mental effects, such as depression from injuries to the head, to the spine, to sentient nerves, or after operations.

12)         Asthma following spinal cord injuries.

13)         Painful teeth. Hypericum can help with pain in the teeth to buy you time until you get to the dentist. If Hypericum does not help sufficiently, it may be better to go to Arnica, particularly after dental work. Arnica or Hypericum cream applied to the cheek in the area of the tooth pain is often sufficient to bring relief.

As you can see from the above list of symptoms Hypericum has a wide range of uses, some instances calling for the Hypericum cream, and some more suited to taking the remedy in potency. I would use the cream topically for painful wounds, injuries to the fingers and toes, painful hemorrhoids, and as a soothing application during labor. For all other conditions mentioned above, I would use the remedy in potency, and consult a professional homeopath or doctor for serious conditions.

My husband burned his hands and wrists in hot asphalt oil. He has nerve damage on the left wrist with pain radiating up to the elbow. What would you suggest? The burn unit says he may need surgery. He is opposed to surgery.

  1. Dear Claire,
There are 694 remedies listed for herpes or herpetic eruptions. Hypericum perforatum is amongst those, but it is important to work with a homeopath who can take your whole case to see which remedy you resonate the best with.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

    • Claire on April 3, 2018 at 2:22 pm

    Hi,

Will this help with herpes outbreaks?

    Thanks in advance

  2. Dear Ritam,
Thank you for writing. I am sorry that you have been suffering from Bell’s palsy on the left cheek for many years. There are 31 remedies listed for Bell’s Palsy, and a few listed for paralysis of the left cheek, paralysis of the left eye and facial paralysis on the left side. I recommend that you work with a homeopath who can look at the totality of your case and find a remedy that covers these symptoms well. There is a lot in the homeopathic tool kit that can help with these symptoms. I will list out the top ones in the searches that I did: Alliium cepa, Causticum, Syphillinum, Formica Rufa, Dulcamara.

I hope that you will find a solution to this health complaint through homeopathy.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

  3. Dear Anya,
Thank you very much for writing. Hypericum may be helpful for both you and your friend, but ideally it would be good to take the whole case and look at the totality of the symptoms, so that you get the best treatment homeopathy has to offer. I would use Hypericum more for injuries to the spine and the coccyx, and would also consider Ruta and Ledum if the modalities of the case fit. If, on the other hand, the pain in the tailbone is more from constitutional causes, then you really need to take the whole case, as there are 172 remedies listed for this. Some are in high degree, such as Silica, which is in bold.

Hypericum may be heplful for the pain in the coccyx you are having from Lyme Disease. Again it is good to take the whole case to find a constitutional remedy that covers the totality of your symptoms, because that is when you see the magic of homeopathy.

I hope both you and your friend recover soon.

    In love and service,

    Deborah Olenev

I am suffering from bell’s palsy on my left cheek since. 1990. I can raise my right eye brow only. But can’t raise left eye brow. I can not move my left cheek while smiling. My left eyelid is not closed completely during sleeping.

    • Anya on March 16, 2018 at 6:21 pm

Thank you for your informative article. I adore hypericum for its help in smashed digits! So very helpful and speeds healing so nicely!

    A few questions:

Is Hypericum ever used as a constitutional remedy, and, if so, where would I find information on that?

Would Hypericum be useful for nerve pain in legs that allegedly comes from early Parkinson’s? A dear friend of mine had a crash into pain (nerve pain, restless leg, back pain, etc) and illness after she extended herself too far in the care of a very ungrateful and vindictive sister in law with whom she had always had unpleasant issues. The doctors diagnosed her with possible early Parkinsons but it was not conclusive. I am inclined to think other causes, including a number of medications that interacted adversely. The meds they gave her shredded her stomach, for one thing, and she is eager to stop all she can. I have her started on royal jelly (for nerve regeneration, brain fog, etc) and aloe (for the stomach) and will gradually move her into some herbs, but Hypericum has kept coming to my kind as a possible helper. When a remedy keeps presenting itself, I listen! ????

Hypericum has also popped up as a thought for how to help nerves damaged by Lyme Disease where pain expresses mostly in the tailbone and spinal column. In Lyme, the bacteria eat the collagen in the nerve sheaths, so I have been repairing that with collagen hydrosylate, herbs, royal jelly, and acupuncture. I have been healing from the Lyme well, and most of my symptoms have resolved or nearly so — though it takes a long time! (I went undiagnosed for about twenty five years or more.)I have been taking occasional doses of Ledum Pal 1M, of course, but the pain misfiring in these areas is leaving more slowly. Would Hypericum be helpful, and if so, what Materia Medica would be best to give me information on dosing? Thank you!

What a wonderful gift to humanity these plants are!

  4. Dear Arun,
I am sorry about your injury.I do not have enough information to say what remedy would help you the most.

Hypericum is listed highly for injury or trauma to the feet, toes and legs, but it is not listed for burning pain in the feet.

Lachesis is a left sided remedy and it is listed for trauma in the areas you have mentioned and for the burning pain, as well as for fracture of the leg, but in this case gangrene is threatening.

Calendula is another remedy that can be considered and Arnica as well.

It would be great if you would work with a homeopath, who can help select the remedy you need and with the management of your case.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

    In love and service,

    Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)

    Sir
I had an accident in April 2011. In which my left leg both bones were broken. Left toe was also broken. Much injuries to left foot as well. After i got operated with and rod implant was done to support. 2 yrs After that i started burning sensation in feet. Sometimes senseless upper portion of foot appears. Continuous pain in foot’s skin. I need to rub, scratch skin with my nails to get it eased. Please suggest me medicine and dosage

  5. Dear Rosemary,
Thank you for writing, I have heard that Hypericum should not be used for diabetic neuropathy. There are 27 remedies listed in my materia medica search program for diabetic neuropathy. If you are looking for a cream that could potentially help,Capsicain cream may be helpful, as it is listed for diabetic neuropathy. Another cream that could be helpful is Ledum cream. This one has shooting pains in the ankles or calves, and the ankles turning under, but it is not listed under diabetic neuropathy.

Aconite and Phosphorous are listed for diabetic neuropathy and shooting pains in the ankles or calves. I hope this information is helpful. It may be good for you to work with a homeopath who can take your case and guide your treatment.

    In love and service,

    Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)

    • Rosemary Smith on January 13, 2018 at 11:28 am

I have extremely painful diabetic neuropathy in both feet. Lately the pain has been getting worse and is shooting up my ankles and calves. Many times I will have an ankle give out or one of my feet turn and I have to catch myself before I fall. Do you think Hypericum would be helpful for my condition, or is there something else that would be better.

  6. Dear Faroque,
I am sorry for my delay in responding to your comment. The dosage you are giving to your wife is much higher and stronger than I would give. When working with a 1M strength, I do not repeat frequently, as a single dose of that strength can hold many months. Since the remedy has not been helping, I would suggest discontinuing and retaking the case to see if there is a remedy that fits better. Please let me know if you would like to consult with me for your wife.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

    • Faroque Ahmed Barbhuiya on November 14, 2017 at 10:23 am

Thanks for the reply. I have started to give 10 drops of hypericum 1m to my wife for the last ten days considering the severe pain. But, no relief till now. Is dose correct ? Kidly suggest.

  7. Dear Faroque,
I am sorry to hear that your wife is suffering from a severe tailbone pain. Do you know if this was caused from an injury. The remedy listed the highest for injuries to the coccyx or the tailbone is Hypericum perforatum, but there are almost two dozen remedies that are mentioned for this as well, some are constitutional remedies, such as Silica, Thuja, Nat-mur, Carbo animalis, Aloe and others.

Of the first aid remedies Hypericum leads for this, but others are mentioned as well, including Bellis perennis, Ruta, and Symphytum. If the pain is caused from an injury, I would lean toward giving your wife a single dose of Hypericum perforatum, possibly in the 30C strength.

Please read the article on this website about How to Take Homeopathic Remedies.

I hope your wife recovers quickly.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

  8. Dear Barbara,
Somebody asked me the same question a few months ago with regard to my first aid creams.. I will copy my response below. My response is oriented toward creams, but you can substitute a 12C or 30C potency remedy for the creams I mention.

Thank you for writing with your question about shingles and severe post shingles neuropathy pain. A few of the first aid creams that we carry are mentioned for shingles, but not very highly. They are Arnica montana cream, Calendula officinalis cream and Hypericum perforatum cream.

The remedies that are listed very highly for shingles are Ranunculus bulbosa, Rhus toxicodendron, Variolinum and Mezereum. There are 230 homeopathic remedies listed for this condition.

There are a few companies that do carry creams with Rhus toxicodendron in them. Boericke and Tafel has a cream called Sports Gel, which has this ingredient, and four other very good first aid ingredients. Nelson’s also carries a first aid Rhus tox cream.

Here are links to where you can purchase these creams:

    http://www.amazon.com/Boericke-Tafel-Sports-Gel-2-5/dp/B0009ET51W

    http://www.nelsonspharmacy.com/shop-online/brand/nelsons-creams/rhux-tox-cream-30g

Ranunculus bulbosa is good for shingles accompanied by intercostal neuralgia, and the vesicles have a dark or bluish appearance, with great itching and burning.

Rhus toxicodendron is a great remedy for shingles. One source describes the appearance and sensation with Rhus tox as prickling, tickling, blisters which will sometimes spread up the limb, and are sometimes circular in form, spreading with a red edge in the advance, which gradually turns to a blister. The rash itches a great deal. There is stinging and tingling on the skin, burning after scratching.

It may be a good idea for you to consult with a classical homeopath to help select the best remedy for the remaining symptoms of your shingles.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

    • Barbara on October 28, 2017 at 9:07 pm

Interested in your thoughts, is hypericum a remedy that would help with post shingles nerve pain?

Was thinking of a hypericum cream?

    Thank you!

Sir/ Madam, my wife is siffering from severe tailbone pain for the last 4 moths. Kindly suggest the name appropriate medicine and how long it will take get relief. Her age is 45 years approx.

    with regards…

  9. Dear Nishat,
I am sorry about your husband’s finger injury. The remedy I would recommend is Hypericum perforatum 30C, because this remedy has a strong affinity to injuries to areas rich in nerves, suck as the fingers. Hypericum perforatum can also have numbness after the injury. If the Hypericum perforatum 30C does not work, then please go to Calendula officinalis 30C.

You can also use Hypericum perforatum cream, which you can get at firstaidcreams.com. You can also buy a cream on the website that combines Hypericum perforatum with Calendula officinalis.

I hope your husband regains sensation in his cut finger soon.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

My husband got a deep cut injury in finger 3 months before but till didn’t get d sense back, what to take now

  10. Dear Yvonne,
I am sorry for my delay in responding. There could be several different remedies that could help you with the dental nerve pain. The first one I am thinking of is Hypericum perforatum. Hekla lava is another remedy listed highly for dental nerve pain. Plantago is also listed highly for this.

It may be a good idea for you to work with a homeopath to help select the best remedy and guide your treatment.

Please read the article on my website, entitled How To Take Homeopathic Remedies to learn how to take remedies safely.

I also invite you to read the Learn about Hypericum Perforatum page on the firstaidcreams website.

If you are interested in working with me, please complete the adult questionnaire and e-mail it to me, and I will get in touch with you.

I wish you all the best.

  11. Dear Preetesh,
I am sorry that your father has been ill, and that he has not found relief yet for his symptoms. There are 264 remedies listed in my materia medica search program for nausea in the morning. Some are listed in high degree for this symptom.

It would be good for your father to work with a classical homeopath who can take his complete case and make a good remedy suggestion for him. It is not possible for me to suggest a remedy, without knowing his complete case.

I hope your father feels better very soon.

  12. Dear Jyoti,
Thank you for writing about your condition. There are many remedies in homeopathy for numbness of the toes and limbs. These symptoms can guide to a good remedy for your healing. I recommend that you work with a homeopathy who can repertorize your case, which means look up your symptoms, and select the appropriate remedy for you.

Homeopathy is a holistic science, so all aspects of the person need to be looked into in order to make the prescription.

I wish you all the best on your road to healing.

  13. Dear Kathy,
Thank you for your question. There is not enough information here for me to help your client. I looked up palms/hands excoriated and 23 remedies showed up. Some of these are important remedies for poison oak, like Rhus toxicodendron, Graphites, and some are constitutional remedies like Sulphur. Of the creams I carry, the only one listed here is Ruta graveolens, so that may be of assistance.

If your client would like to schedule a quick acute consultation, I can talk to her, and see if we can figure this out together. I hope she recovers very quickly.

I have a client who got into some poison Giant Turnip, or also call wild dill. She has it all over her body and is causing her a lot of pain. It is literally eating the skin off of the palms of her hands. I was looking for something that might help calm her nervous system and aid in the pain. Thanks

  14. Dear Shaylynne,
The reason I advise against Ruta during pregnancy is that it is an abortigen, which means it can induce abortions, and it has historically been used for this purpose.

    In love and service,

Out of curiosity from your reply below, why do you advise against ruta for pregnancies. Thank you!

  15. Dear Mollie,
I am very sorry for my delay in responding to your e-mail. I generally have time to respond to blog comments about once every two weeks. I respond to e-mails daily. I hope that your husband is feeling better by now. Please see the article I recently wrote on How to Take Homeopathic Remedies. Here is the link:

    https://homeopathyforhealth.net/2016/07/16/how-to-take-homeopathic-remedies/

Your intuition that following the directions on the bottle is a bad idea, was a good one.

There are many different remedies that can help with tooth pain. Hypericum perforatum can be very good for neuralgic type pain in the teeth. If he takes one dose of the 30C strength and it does not help after 48 hours, then it may be that he needs a different remedy. It may be a good idea for your husband to consult with a homeopath to help him with the dental problems if the Hypericum does not help sufficiently.

If your husband would like to consult with me, please ask him to complete the adult quesitonnaire and e-mail it to me. That way I would know that he is ready to move forward. I wish you and your husband the best of health. Here is the link to the questionnarei:

Hi. My husband has had pain in his tooth for over a week due to getting a filling. He went back to the dentist, to 2 different doctors and a specialist for root canal, because they said he probably needs one if the pain doesn’t go away. He’s had other symptoms randomly as well, like headache, sore throat and sore face, but doctors say nothing is wrong, that it’s probably caused from his tooth. He doesn’t want to have a root canal after doing some research on it and was hoping taking hypericum perforatum would help. He just got 30c in small pellets and followed the directions of taking 5 under the tongue. It says to do that 3x a day. I has wondering your opinion on the dosage. It seems like a lot to me.

    Thanks, Mollie

  16. Dear Polona,
I am sorry for my delay in responding to your comment. Hypericum 12C should be fine for you to take during pregnancy. A remedy you should be cautious about taking during pregnancy is Ruta graveolens. I wish you all the best.

Hi, i am 35 weeks pregnant and i have had a filled tooth for 3 years with occassionally sensitivity in it. Hypercium has always helped me, now when i am pregnant i don’t know if i can take it? I have c12 potency. Thank you for your answer

  17. Dear Rosemary,
I am sorry to hear about the pain you have been in. I looked up the back pain and the burning pain in the buttocks for you. Hypericum does not have the burning pain in the buttocks. The remedy that has both theese symptoms in bold is Sepia, which is a great women’s hormonal remedy. Thuja also has these in high degree.

It sounds like you may need a constitutional remedy rather than a trauma or acute remedy for your back pain. If you would like to consult with me about this, please complete the adult questionnaire that you can find on this website and e-mail it to Olenev@att.net. That way I will know you would like a consultation, and we will have everything we need to get started.

I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Deborah, I have had terrible back pain for the last 2 weeks and have tried a few homeopathics. I tried Hypericum last night and it relieved the pain for a while. I have Q18 Hypericum from my homeopath. Do you know what sort of doses I should take? I have had one pillule yesterday afternoon and one in the night when I woke up with burning pain in my buttocks. the pain went away. the chiro says it is nuerological pain. thanks Deborah, Rose Hawke

  18. Dear Erika,
I am sorry about your tooth pain. There are a number of different remedies that can help with tooth pain from dental trauma. The main ones are:

Arnica montana 12C or 30C. This is good for pain after dental work, with soreness, sensitivity to touch, and dental trauma. This can be just wonderful following dental work.

Hyperiucm perforatum 12C or 30C. This is good for injury to the nerve of the tooth. A good indication for this is that the pain radiates to adjacent teeth, or other areas, along the course of the nerves.

Ledum palustre 12C or 30C is great if you want to suck on ice or put an ice pack on your face. It is good for puncture wounds. As you know there is a lot of puncturing going on with dental work, so this is an often needed remedy.

Hecla lava 30C is fabulous for wisdom tooth or molar extractions, or surgery. It is good for periodontal disease, and for bones in general. It is good for osteoporosis. It can bring very fast relief to tooth pain when nothing else touches it.

Ruta graveolens 12C or 30C is great for the pain of dry socket. Here is information about Ruta from my http://www.firstaidcreams.com webiste. Ruta is good for trauma to the tooth where the tooth is loosened or knocked out of position. It is good for bone and periosteal pain from dental surgery. To help with the discomfort of fitting braces; for the pain of dry socket, and when Arnica does not help sufficiently after dental work.

I recommend taking only one dose of the remedy and not repeating. The 200C you are mentioning is quite high. You definitely should not need to repeat it. A 12C or a 30C should be as high as you need to go.

These are the instructions that I would use for taking the remedy:

Instructions for Taking the First Dose of a New Remedy

    1) Please dissolve 2 to 3 pellets of the remedy you have chosen in 4 oz. of water in a small cup. You can use a disposable cup if you wish.
    2) Once the remedy has thoroughly dissolved in the water, please stir it well.
    3) Please drink 5 tablespoons of the liquid. You should hold the liquid in your mouth for 15 or 20 seconds before swallowing each sip. You may drink regular water after that if you would like. Please do not eat an hour before or after taking the remedy.
    4) You can also take the dose by olfaction, which would be to breathe over the cup for one minute.
    5) Discard the remainder of the liquid on the ground outside, and clean or dispose of the cup carefully, so as not to expose anyone else in the household to the medicine.

The remedy will begin to cycle through your repertoire of symptoms while it looks for what it needs to work on. When it does so the symptoms may intensify for awhile before they get better. That intensification is a good thing, as it shows you that the remedy has located what it needs to work on and is addressing the symptoms. The cycling process can take weeks or months depending upon how deep rooted the symptoms are. It is normal for symptoms from the past to show up during the cycling process, but they should resolve on their own in a short time. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the initial reaction period.

I hope this information is helpful.

Hi, i have pain on a tooth, my dentist did a filling like a month and a half ago, and now all of the sudden it started to hurt and be super sensitive to cold 🙁 he said that i may need a root canal treatment but i can’t afford it and it was thanks to him that i have this pain (when i went to see him that tooth did not need “a change of filling” ) anyways i read about hypericum and that helps for tooth pain and even helps heal nerves?, so i went to the store and the girl recommended 200C i bought it but the instructions she gave me aren’t the same as writen in the tiny tube, can you please guide me?
    Thank you
    Erika

  19. Dear Twinkle,
I am not seeing that Hypericum perforatum is listed under teeth sensitive to hot or cold. A good post surgery remedy that does have the sensitivity of the teeth to hot or cold is Staphysagria. This remedy is known as the surgeon’s friend in homeopathy. There is usually pain in the site of the incision. The remedy also helps to prevent infection. The best thing for you to do would be to consult with a homeopath who can look at the whole story, and give you the best advice.

If you do decide to take the Hypericum or the Staphysagria, here is the way I would prescribe it. I would only take the dose one time and not repeat. If the remedy is correct that should be sufficient.

Instructions for Taking the First Dose of a New Remedy

    1) Please dissolve 2 to 3 pellets of whatever remedy you choose in 4 oz. of water in a small cup. You can use a disposable cup if you wish. (When you are not sure about the remedy, it is always better to use a low potency, like a 12C strength)
    2) Once the remedy has thoroughly dissolved in the water, please stir it well.
    3) Please drink 3 or 4 tablespoons of the liquid.

I hope your tooth pain gets better soon.

Hi. I have tooth amalgam just about weeks ago and i search answers why it hurts everytime i drink or eat cold foods. I end up at a youtube video explaining about hypericum. Whats is the proper dosage for me and does it have any side effects? I hope you can help me. Thank you

  20. Dear Stella,
I am sorry to hear about the accident your 11 year old son had with his front tooth. My son, who is now 29, had the same thing happen to his front tooth at around the same age. I do not know if the Hypericum perforatum would or would not restore life and health to that damaged nerve in your son’s tooth, but I think it is worth trying the remedy. I would recommend a single dose of Hypericum perforatum 30C. This is how I would prescribe it:

Instructions for Taking the First Dose of a New Remedy

    1) Please dissolve 3 pellets of Hypericum 30C in 4 oz. of water in a small cup. You can use a disposable cup if you wish.
    2) Once the remedy has thoroughly dissolved in the water, please stir it well.
    3) Please give your son 3 tablespoons of the liquid to drink. He should hold the liquid in his mouth for 15 or 20 seconds before swallowing each sip. He may drink regular water after that if you would like. He should not eat an hour before or after taking the remedy.
    4) He can also take the dose by olfaction, which would be to breathe over the cup for one minute.
    5) Discard the remainder of the liquid on the ground outside, and clean or dispose of the cup carefully, so as not to expose anyone else in the household to the medicine.

I hope this will help heal your son’s tooth.

    Dear Deborah,
My son is 11 years old and he had an accident at school while playing outside about 10 days ago. One of his front teeth was broken and shifted from its place. The dentist was able to pull the teeth back soon after the accident occurred. After a week we went for the tooth bondage and the dentist said that the nerve had died.
I read in an article that hypericum could restore a damaged nerve and save the tooth from a root canal. Is it still possible to revive the tooth nerve at this point? If so, can you please advice on the dosage and the duration of the treatment.

    Thank you.

  21. Dear Taneal,
I would need more information in order to help you? Does your face feel better when you apply ice? What is the nature of the pain? Is there shooting pain? Please send an e-mail to Olenev@att.net with additional descriptive information, or let me know if you would like a brief phone consultation. Thank you.

    Warm regards,

    Hello,
One week ago today i had some botox injected into my forehead etc as i was feeling tired and drawn. I feel so foolish that i hadn’t researched possible side effects! I just trusted it was safe.
The following day my face looked puffy and swollen. My eyelids are heavy and extra hooded and my brow is lower. My nose and bridge are puffy and i feel so ugly. My question is… besided Arnica is there anything else that might help rid my body of th is toxin? Would Hypericum 30c be beneficial to help the nerves and muscles reactivate quicker? I want this toxin out of my body!
Thankyou so much for your time!

  22. Dear Debbie,
I am sorry that your son dropped this weight on his foot. You did the right thing to give him Hypericum. At this point, I do not think you should do anything else. I do not know what potency you gave, but I am guessing a 30C. Since he is better, in the sense that he is not yelling from pain, please take that as an indication that the remedy is on the job and working. It will take time for the tissues themselves to heal. Often what happens is that the remedy takes away the pain, but still time is needed for the tissues to mend. You should not repeat the remedy. A single dose of a 12C or 30C should be sufficient to bring him to recovery.

I wish you and your family all the best.

    Deborah,
My 5 yo son dropped a 10lb weight on his toe. I gave him hypercium right away and then in 30 min. His pain decreased from uncontrollable sobbing wails to no crying and moving around abit dragging his foot. Is there anything I should give him for swelling or follow up. It is pretty swollen and bruised.

  23. Dear Kushum,
Thank you for your question regarding dental surgery. There are different philosphies as to whether one should take the remedy before surgery or after. George Vithoulkas recommends taking a remedy after surgery, if it is needed, based on the symptoms you are experiencing.

Arnica is often a good remedy to take after dental surgery, if you are having a lot of soreness in the mouth with sensitivity to touch. Ordinarily, a single dose one time is sufficient. With the lower potencies the pellets are often quite large, so 2 to 3 pellets one time should be sufficient, and usually you should not need to repeat it.

Other remedies can also come into play, such as Ledum palustre, a great remedy for puncture wounds. Often there is a lot of puncturing involved with dental work and Ledum can be very helpful. The huge guiding symptom to this remedy is that the painful area feels better from ice cold applications. So if you have dental work and you want to put an ice pack on your cheek, Ledum can prove to be very helpful.

Hypericum perforatum is good if there is nerve involvement. A good clue that this is the remedy you need is if the pain radiates to different parts, along the course of the nerves.

Ruta is another big remedy for dental trauma. Please see my http://www.firstaidcreams.com website to learn more about these remedies and their uses in dental surgery.

If you have periodontal disease, think of remedies like Silica, and Hecla Lava.

If you have dental abscesses, think of remedies like Hepar Sulph and Silica.

I recommending soaking a gauze pad with 6 drops of Calendula tincture in warm water, and applying it to the area that you had the surgery on. This will help expedite the healing of the tooth. Calendula is strong medicine, so you may only need to use it a day or two.

How to take the remedy? Here is the way I usually recommend taking a remedy. I do not give multiple doses, and recommend taking just one dose and watching and waiting. I would only repeat if symptoms that had gotten better for awhile began to return. It is unlikely that you would need to repeat any of these remedies.

Instructions for Taking the First Dose of a New Remedy

    1) Please dissolve 2 to 3 pellets of _________ 30C (or whatever potency you are using) in 4 oz. of water in a small cup. You can use a disposable cup if you wish.
    2) Once the remedy has thoroughly dissolved in the water, please stir it well.
    3) Please drink 4 tablespoons of the liquid. Hold the liquid in your mouth for 15 or 20 seconds before swallowing each sip. You may drink regular water after that if you would like. You should not eat an hour before or after taking the remedy.

Dear Deborah,

I have a dental surgery planned for tomorrow (wisdom tooth removal). I was recommended Arnica 15C (5 pellets before surgery and then 5pel. three times a day), and Hypericum 15C which was, unfortunately, not available in any pharmacy near by. I managed to get Hypericum 30C but I do not know how and when to use it. (Surely after the surgery, not before – thanks a lot for sharing your experience.) Could you advice, please? Thanks
    Kushum

  24. Dear Jenny,
For infants I usually work with a 12C or 30C ppotency. I would give one dose and not repeat. For a baby I would dissolve 1 pellet in 4 oz. of water and give the baby one or two teaspons of the liquid.

Calendula officinalis 30C may be a good remedy to help with wound healing and to prevent infection. If there is bruising and soreness Arnica montana 12C or 30C can help. If there is a lot of pain that seems to radiate Hypericum perforatum 12C or 30C can help. If ice is very soothing, think of Ledum palustre 12C or 30C.

I also sell first aid creams of all of these at http://www.firstaidcreams.com. This can be helpful if you do not want to give an oral dose of the remedies.

I hope your baby recovers soon.

    Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)
