Bellis Perennis

Bellis perennis is the English daisy and a member of the Compositae family, from which most of our first aid remedies come from. I always felt that this remedy ought to exist in cream and ointment form, but none of the suppliers I knew carried it until Washington Homeopathic Products made if for me in 2005. This remedy has many properties in common with other first aid remedies, and has a very broad range of uses.

For some reason Bellis perennis never gained the popularity of Arnica, Calendula and many of our other first aid remedies. Most people only prescribe it for soft tissue injuries, but I discovered so many other wonderful uses for it when I researched this remedy. It appears to have properties similar to quite a number of the other first aid remedies, and I have yet to discover why it is not more widely used. If it does all the things that it is listed for it is truly a great remedy of many uses. Here is a list of some of the situations where this cream and remedy can come in handy

1)         Injuries to soft tissue: Think of Bellis perennis for injuries to soft tissue, such as the breast and abdomen. For blows and injuries to muscle tissue, bone or blood vessels think of Arnica. Please read the Arnica chapter to compare the two remedies. If a hard ball hit me in the breast, I would not hesitate to rub this cream on my breast. I gave this remedy internally to a woman who had liposuction to help heal the soft abdominal tissue, and it helped her a great deal.

2)         Sprains and bruises: This remedy duplicates many of the properties of Arnica, and is also good for sprains and bruises. It is good for the near and remote effects of blows, falls and accidents (like Arnica).

3)         Injuries to deeper tissues from surgery.

4)         Injuries to the coccyx like Hypericum.

5)         Injuries to the ligaments like Ruta.

6)      For deep trauma and septic wounds like Calendula.

7)      It is good for boils.

8)         Consider Bellis perennis if Arnica does not help sufficiently with swelling after surgery.

9)      For internal bruising during pregnancy from the movements of the fetus, and for soreness of the abdominal walls, like Arnica.

10)    Varicose veins with bruised sore feeling.

11)    Bellis perennis is known to help women who develop breast cancer after an injury to the breast.  This is the number one remedy for that.

12)    It relieves many troubles of pregnancy, such as the inability to walk and varicose veins.

13)    It helps with breast engorgement.

14)    In my research on this remedy, I also discovered that it is good for the giddiness of elderly people, and for the effects of cold or iced drinks when overheated.

Even though Bellis perrenis has such a wide range of action, for some reason it has not really come into the popularity of the other first aid remedies with which it shares many properties. I hope that once the excellent therapeutic range of this remedy is more widely known that it will be utilized more frequently.

Dear Friends,
I appreciate your visiting my website and reading my articles and taking the time to write your comments. I welcome your comments and will post them if it looks like what you have to say will be helpful to others. I may not write a comment back, but will let the article itself present my point of view.

I am no longer responding to people’s questions regarding personal health matters on my blog, because it becomes stressful for me due to the volume of such questions that I get.

Also there is no way I can actually answer these questions properly without familiarizing myself with the person’s  health.

For anyone who is interested in working with me, please complete the appropriate questionnaire and send it to me. This way I will know that you are ready to move forward with a consultation.

I wish you the best of health.

I am happy that Bellis Perenis is the subject of this article since I have found it to be a remedy that has often provided a response where other remedies, apparently perfectly suited, have failed. I have used it recently for symptoms appearing in my right leg which had been hurt in a bus accident, namely: strong pains in my right shinbone, hip and ankle, worse at night in bed, very stiff upon getting up, better from movement, worse from damp weather, which did not respond as well as expected to Ruta, Rhus tox and Arnica, but responded immediately to Bellis 30ch first dose. I wondered whether the subjective feeling of having suffered a blow psychologically is what created the strong resonance with Bellis perennis. I think that this remedy is much more powerful and has a much greater range of use than what it is to date known for.

  1. Dear Amy,
Thank you for your questions. If you are treating a trauma situation then you may need to change remedies frequently. This can happen if the symptoms of the patient changes and calls for a change of remedy. This sometimes does happen in emergency situations.

If this is not an emergency situation, I would allow each remedy ample time to work, and only change remedies, if the symptoms have changed, calling for a new remedy.

Otherwise for chronic situations I usually do my first evaluation on a deep acting constitutional remedy at seven weeks from when the person took the remedy. Then I only repeat the remedy when there is strong evidence that symptoms that had gotten better have begun to relapse.

To understand this better, please read the following article:

The remedy requires time to set up its action and unfold the healing process. You want to make sure that you do not interfere and do not treat aggravations or reactions.

Here is another article on alternating remedies:

I hope this answer is helpful. I wish you success with homeopathy.

    • Amy on August 13, 2020 at 12:45 pm

When taking homeopathic remedies, can you take for eg. your 5 pellets of arnica at the same time as taking 5 pellets of calendula? or should you wait a half an hour between taking different types of homeopathic medicines?

Also, can you take arnica and bellis at the same time or just take one or the other as they both do similar things. Although, it appears bellis is better for deep tissue surgeries?

    Thanks! Great blog!
    Amy

  2. Dear Hannah,
I am sorry for my delay in responding. I would really need to take your case to try to determine what remedy would help you. Bellis perennis could be good.

The remedy listed in bold for: Tumors, benign: nerves, neuroma is Calendula officinalis.

Ruta graveolens, Arnica, and Rhus tox may also be good to study for your symptoms.

I hope that you feel better soon.

    In love and service,

    Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)

  3. Dear Muhammad,
Thank you for writing about your nephew. I looked up hypogonadism in my homeopathy software, and there was only one reference and that was to Zincum metallicum. This is what was written, ” Deficiency of zinc may lead to growth retardation, hypogonadism in males, anorexia (possibly due to changes in taste and smell), depressed mental function, dermatitis, impaired wound-healing, suppressed immune function, diarrhea, and abnormal vitamin A metabolism with impaired night vision.”

I also looked up small penis and delayed puberty and other remedies that came to the fore are: Lycopidum, Pulsatilla, Baryta carb, Agnus castus, and Zinc. There are a couple of remedies made from the pituitary gland that also had these symptoms.

Please work with a homeopath to try to help your nephew. I wish you all the best.

My nephew age 19 years, has hypogonadism(small penis and teates), no sign of puberty yet, no hair on face, puffy face, obese, is there any homeo treatment?

    • Hannah on November 28, 2019 at 1:24 pm

    Hi Deborah,

Thanks so much for all the helpful information in this article! I have been suffering from a Morton’s neuroma for seven months now, which has been incredibly difficult since I am an active 24 year old. It has affected my life to the point of having to relocate so I can be closer to a corrective chiropractor in order to align my hips and spine again, which was the reason for the injury forming in the first place.

I’ve been getting adjustments for 6 weeks now and am eating a healthier, anti-inflammatory diet now; however, I’ve been told that this could take months to years to mend. Do you think that Bellis perennis could help me? I’ve also discovered graphite 12 while doing my research as another homeopathic remedy that helps break down scar tissue.

Any and all suggestions you might have would be so appreciated.

  4. Dear Kirankumar,
I am sorry for taking so long to reply to you. My father had an unfortunate accident and I have been taking care of him, hence my delay in responding to your comment.

It may be a good idea to consider using Ruta graveolens 30C as a single dose for the ligament tear at the ankle. Ruta is very good for injuries to ligaments and tendons, and the linings of the bones, and it is listed in bold for injuries to the ankles.

If the Bellis perennis is not helping sufficiently, the Ruta may be a better fit.

I hope your ankle heals very soon.

    • Kirankumar on September 25, 2019 at 10:58 pm

    Hi,

I had a ligament tear at ankle and i am using Bellis perennis. I need to know how long will it be taking to cure and can we intake in our food. since, these are made from leaves.

    Thanks,
    Kurankumar

  5. Dear Amit,
Bellis perennis is one of 19 remedies listed for great engorgement, and it is listed in the highest degree for this.

Bellis perennis has a very very large range of action and can be used for many conditions. It’s range of action is similar to many first aid remedies, but it has a very big reputation for soft tissue injury, so for these reasons Bellis preens can be prescribed to men as well as women.

I wish you all the best.

  6. Dear Carson,
I am very sorry for my delay in responding. I hope that you have fully recovered by now. Here is a link to an article on remedies for surgery recovery:

Different people different remedies for surgery recovery, and some people need a sequence of remedies.

Bellis perennis could be an excellent remedy for inguinal hernia surgery recovery.

Staphysagria, “the surgeon’s friend” can also be excellent for pain in the incision with suppressed anger.

Hypericum perforatum can also be wonderful, if there is pain in the nerves extending from the site of the incision.

Arnica for surgery recovery is tremendous. It can help with bruising, bleeding, pain and trauma.

I hope you are feeling better now.

Do you have any advice on homeopathic remedies or healing solutions for post op inguinal hernia? I am not experiencing much pain, but anything that will promote healing in the tissue or deacrease scarring is much appreciated.

  7. Dear Amita,
Since I have not taken your case nor seen you, it is not possible for me to accurately suggest a prescription. The best I can do is guess at Bellis perennis 30C. These are sample directions. Remember that this would be a single dose, that you should not consider repeating before several months, and only then if your symptoms are relapsing for two weeks.

Instructions for Taking the First Dose of a New Remedy

    1) Please dissolve 3 pellets of Bellis perennis 30C in 4 oz.. of water in a small cup. You can use a disposable cup if you wish.
    2) Once the remedy has thoroughly dissolved in the water, please stir it well. It may take 15 minutes for the pellets to thoroughly dissolve.
    3) Please drink all of the liquid. Please hold the liquid in your mouth for 15 or 20 seconds before swallowing each sip. Please do not eat an hour before or after taking the remedy. It is okay to drink water.
    4) In addition to taking the remedy orally, you can also take the dose by olfaction, which would be to breathe over the cup for one minute.
    5) Please clean or dispose of the cup.

You may experience a time in the first weeks after taking the remedy when your symptoms might be up and down. This is the remedy cycling through your repertoire of symptoms and looking for what it needs to work on. Each time you take a remedy the cycling process gets easier, but I wanted to make you aware that this is a normal process after taking a remedy.

I hope this helps and you feel better soon.

    In love and service,

    Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)

  8. Dear Lillian,
Thank you for writing. I am sorry that you are suffering from diverticulitis. A remedy that may possibly help with this is Bryonia alba. Bryonia is good when there is aggravation from motion, such as turning in the bed, or any kind of movement, but better when you are lying still. You can read descriptions of Bryonis on the internet and see if it seems to cover your symptoms well.

Hello Deborah, I am a very enthusiastic person regards on homeopathic therapies having experienced myself many benefits. However since I left my country, I’ve never found someone capable to take care of myself. I live in a country where homeopathy is not considered seriously. At this moment I’m at the hospital trying to treat a huge inflammation supposed to be diverticulitis. When I was young, I used to be a pulsatilla person. Can you help me?

  9. Dear Ritesh,
Thank you for writing with your question. I wish that it was as easy as that. There are hundreds of remedies listed in homeopathy for back pain, and we cannot repertorize according to the location of the pain as specifically as L3-L4.

In homeopathy we treat the person as a whole and it would be necessary for your homeopath to take your complete case in order to determine what remedy to give you to help with the back pain.

Please persist in your search for a good homeopath and for healing, as you will get what you strive for.

    In love and service,

  10. Dear Rene,
I am sorry to hear about the adeno carcinoma in your uterus, and that your doctor is suggesting 25 rounds of radiation after the hysterectomy. I think it is wise for you to seek an alternative.

There are 181 remedies listed for cancer of the uterus. The remedies at the top for this are:

    Kreos
    Carb-an
    Ars
    Iod
    Graph
    Phos
    Thlaspi
    Hydr
    Con
    Crot-h
    Sulph
    Lach
    Sec
    Thuja
    Aur-m-n
    and many others.

As you can see homeopathy does have tools to help with this condition, so I encourage you to seek for an alternative to the radiation.

If you do chose to have radiation, please use Urtica urens for radiation burns, and consider taking remedies like Radium bromatum for the effects of radiation.

I wish you a complete recovery.

    In love and service,

    Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA)

I recently had a hysterectomy to remove a 2.6 cm. adeno carcinoma from my uterus The oncologist suggested I have 25 radiation treatments after declaring that all the cancer had been removed. Is there anything I can do homeopathically instead? Rene r trotti

  11. Dear Joan,
Thank you for writing. There are 160 remedies listed under hernia on the abdomen, and 34 for umbilical hernias. To me this means it is possible to treat this homeopathically. I, however, have never treated this condition, so I cannot speak from experience. The remedy Nux vomica is listed in bold for both of these, but I would recommend working with a homeopath who can take your complete case, with special regard to this symptom.

If you do go forward with the surgery, I would recommend considering remedies like:

Staphysagria, which is known as the surgeon’s friend, and is good for pain in the incision.

Hypericum perforatum is also a good remedy for post abdominal surgery. This is for injury to areas rich in nerves. It should not be taken prior to surgery, as it can interfere with anesthesia.

Bellis perennis should be considered. This is for soft tissue injury.

I wish you success in finding a non-surgical solution for your hernia; or success with the surgery and recovery.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

    • Joan Anderson on March 26, 2018 at 7:35 pm

I have what I think is a hernia on my abdomen, about two inches above my navel. It is not painful, but it is a round lump that protrudes. At first it was smaller, and I could push it back in, but now I can’t. Is there any homeopathic remedy that could help? I would like to avoid surgery, if possible. But if there is no other way, would you suggest any remedies following the surgery?

    Thank you!

  12. Dear Alisha,
I am sorry for my delay in responding to your comment. Bellis perennis is not listed for the symptoms that you mentioned: right chocolate cyst, acne or hypothyroidism. There are ten remedies that are listed for this combination of symptoms. My suggestion is that you work with a homeopath who can take your case and guide you in the selection, administration and management of your case. Some of the remedies are: Iodiim, Caalcarea carbonica, Agaricus, Mercurius, Thyroidinum, Phosphorus and Kali-carb.

I wish you success in finding a homeopath to work with who can assist you with your case.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

  14. Dear Julie,
I am sorry for my delay in responding to your e-mail. Bellis perennis sounds like a good place to start for your girlfriend. I would recommend giving her a single dose of the 30C or 200C of this remedy. She may also benefit from a dose of Calendula officinalis 30C or 200C after the Bellis perennis. This remedy helps with suppuration following surgery, with preventing infection and with wound healing.

Please read the article on this website about How To take Homeopathic Remedies to learn how to do this safely.

I wish you and your friend all the best.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

  16. Dear Deborah,
My girlfriend has a seroma Right breast after cancer surgery. I’m trying to help her with a remedy recommendation. Would you be so kind to make a suggestion for my sweet friend. I googled Bellis, and wonder what needs to heal which is allowing the seroma. Thank you for your love and service! <3
    Julie

  17. Dear Emma,
Thank you for writing with your question about whether Bellis perennis would help with an ovarian cyst. Bellis perennis is not listed for ovarian cysts, so it is unlikely to help with this issue.

There are 117 remedies listed for ovarian cysts. My recommendation would be to work with a homeopath who can take your complete case and select a good remedy for you, and help manage your treatment.

If you are interested in working with me, please complete the adult questionnaire that you can find on this website, and e-mail it to me. That way I will know you are ready to proceed.

I wish you all the best.

    In love and service,

I have ovarian cysts which are painful. Would bellis perennis help and at what potency? I thought it might be a good overall remedy as I have a lot of aches and pains. Thankyou.

  18. Dear Carl,
The remedy that has the highest reputation for tennis elbow is Ruta graveolens. I would use this remedy in the 30C strength first, and if it doesn’t help go to the Bellis perennis. Here is a link to the article I wrote on How to Take Homeopathic Remedies. I hope the article will be helpful:

  19. Hi Deborah, l have tennis elbow which is very painful.
I believe Bellis Perennis would help. In what form would l be best to take this?

  20. Dear Asim,
Please do not repeat the Bellis perennis 200C. It has only been 13 days and you are experiencing improvement. A 200C dose can hold for many months and even years. What I recommend doing is evaluating yourself at seven weeks from when you took the remedy. If the symptoms that had gotten better at that point return for a while, and you are sure you are in a relapse, then you can repeat safely. Please see the article on my website on How to Take Homeopathic Remedies.

I am happy to hear you are feeling better.

    In love and service,

    Deborah

  21. Ten days ago I had given a dose of 200C after breast surgery. Pain went down significantly. However, some pain still remains. Should I repeat the dose?

  22. Dear Thomas,
Thank you for writing with your question. There are a lot of remedies in homeopathy for wound healing. Of the creams that I sell on the firstaidcreams.com website, Calendula officinalis cream would be the best one. This cream and remedy is the best remedy in homeopathy for wound healing.

That said, in your particular situation, the wound heals slowly and breaks open. You may want to consider taking a dose of Silica 30C for that, as it is listed very highly for wounds that break open. Please read the article on the website on Olenev@att.net.

I hope you recover very quickly.
